Irene Mackay

Irene uses traditional techniques, personally constructing her own designs. She mainly applies the techniques of kiln fired painting, staining, acid etching, enamelling, and kiln fusing and is heavily influenced by the natural environment, particularly gardens, plants and landscapes.

Irene completed an Art and Design degree in 1997, receiving a first class qualification. The following year she studied for a PGCE in Art and Design, going on from this to teach Art in various schools, while at the same time, continuing as a practicing Artist, including working in figurative sculpture and other 2D work.

Irene soon decided to work in Stained Glass, and has been doing so for 15 years. She now runs her own independent stained glass studio in North Cumbria. Irene recently completed a commission for gold winning Garden Designer, John Everiss, for the 2015 Chelsea Flower Show

She welcomes new commissions from private individuals and businesses, including Architects, Interior Designers and Garden Designers.
